Adjunct Lecturer, Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, New York, NY — August 2021-present

Teaching a “Reporting on Race” writing course for third-semester students. Developed the syllabus for the course in 2021, which includes deep exploration of the history of race reporting in U.S. media and how a lack of equitable and fair coverage continues to ripple in a modern day landscape.

Reports and produces written news and feature articles on the nation’s biggest race stories. Recent coverage includes the coronavirus pandemic’s disproportionate toll on Black people, police brutality and the reckoning on systemic racism.


Senior Reporter, The Appeal, New York, NY — January 2019-March 2020

Reported and produced written news and feature articles on the nation’s biggest drivers of mass incarceration. Coverage included the much-watched Democratic primary for district attorney in Queens, New York, along with in-custody death cases, parole systems and police accountability across the country.

Reported and produced written features and video pieces across platforms. Body of work included launching Mic’s Facebook Watch show with a story on the FBI’s black identity extremist designation, and filing dispatches about police use-of-force, bail and the prison system.

Reported and wrote national stories for the digital news outlet. Coverage included diversity in media, environmental justice, voting rights and criminal justice reform. Appeared on local and national TV and radio to discuss social justice issues.


U.N. Correspondent, Miami Herald, New York, NY — May 2012-January 2015

Reported and wrote stories as a freelance stringer for the Herald’s World section. Coverage included Caribbean and Latin American delegations in the U.N. General Assembly, the Security Council, and other U.N. committees.


Staff Writer, The Record, Bergen County, NJ — October 2013-January 2015

Broke news and reported enterprise features on a municipal beat. Coverage area included Teaneck, Bogota, Little Ferry and Moonachie, on a range of topics that included school desegregation, business diversity and local reaction to the Black Lives Matter movement.
